Solidarity appeal for Papuan detainees

TAPOL has become very concerned about two Papuan political prisoners who are seriously ill. While many of us are working long-term on the issue of political prisoners in Indonesia, in the short-term these people are in pain and need help now. We aim to raise #1,000 in the next week to help pay for their medical care, and are writing to ask for your help.
The two prisoners currently suffering serious medical conditions are Kimanus Wenda, who has a stomach tumour, and Jefrai Murib, who has suffered a stroke but not yet received decent medical care. Kimanus Wenda is from the Central Highlands of Papua, but he is in prison in Nabire quite far from his home region. He has waited for three months just to get permission to leave prison to go to hospital – meanwhile he has apparently been vomiting a lot because of the tumour. Jefrai Murib is in prison on the island of Biak, and in a very shaky hand-written letter dated 10 January 2012 he describes his illness:
"My condition until now is that I still can't walk properly. The whole of the right side of my body is paralysed/incapacitated, and according to the doctor this condition is permanent. Communication is also difficult because I can't really hear what's being said."
Obviously it is Indonesia's responsibility to pay for this treatment, and many organisations are working hard to push the government to pay up. But in the meantime Kimanus Wenda and Jefrai Murib are still suffering and we can easily do something to help them.
