Free Faisalabad 6 NOW!

Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM) Press Release - November 6, 2011

Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) condemns strongly the 490 years of total jail sentences to the 6 labour activists in Faisalabad.

The six Labour Qaumi Movement's leaders who led power-loom workers' struggles and sentenced by anti-terrorist court are Akbar Ali Kamboh, Babar Shafiq Randhawa, Fazal Elahi, Rana Riaz Ahmed, Muhammad Aslam Malik and Asghar Ali. They were arrested and charged because they called a strike by power-loom workers to demand for better wage. They were facing fabricated charges like accused of burning a factory during the strike.

PSM calls upon the Pakistan government and Punjab provincial government to stop repression and persecution against labour activists.

PSM also would like to express our solidarity with the struggle of power-loom workers in Faisalabad as well as the labour movement in Pakistan. The courageous struggle of workers in the province of Punjab Pakistan is an inspiration for the struggle of workers in Malaysia.
