Jakarta – The National Police have said no permit request regarding a new protest rally by the Guardians of the Indonesian Ulema Council's Fatwas, or GNPF-MUI, has been sent to them. The rally is reportedly scheduled for March 31.

The GNPF-MUI is an organization that was behind two demonstrations, on Nov. 4 and Dec. 2, dubbed as the "411" and "212" rallies, to demand the arrest of incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama over blasphemy charges.

The planned "313" rally, under the same theme as the previous ones, according to rumors will be a protest march from the capital's Istiqlal Mosque to the State Palace in Central Jakarta.

"There are brochures regarding the 313 protest, but the police have not received any notification," National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said in Jakarta on Monday (27/03).

Another mass gathering, "Al Maidah Picnic," organized by a group calling itself Gerakan Kemenangan Jakarta, or Jakarta Victory Campaign, has reportedly been scheduled for the gubernatorial election day on April 19.

Concerns have been mounting over religious and ethnic sentiments surrounding Jakarta's runoff election, with Muslim hardliners demanding that Ahok step down and voters not to re-elect him.

Ahok is competing with Anies Baswedan, a former education minister, after no candidates won an outright majority in the first-round on Feb. 15.
