Ten years jail for man who insulted Thai monarchy
Associated Press - April 3, 2009
Bangkok – A court says it has sentenced a Thai national to a decade in jail for offending the king and his family by posting edited photos of them on the Web.
Suwicha Thakho, 34, was detained in January and confessed to editing photos of revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej and his family.
The court did not say in its ruling Friday how the photos were changed nor where they appeared, although local media had said some of them appeared on YouTube.
The country's lese majeste law prohibits insulting Bhumibol and his family. Prosecutions are not common, although complaints have been filed in recent months against Thai citizens as well as foreigners.
