Hundreds gather for Singapore 'SlutWalk' protest

Associated Press - December 4, 2011

Singapore – Hundreds of Singaporeans have gathered at a downtown park to protest sexual violence against women as part of the global "SlutWalk" movement.

Vanessa Ho said Sunday that she and her six friends who organized the event sought to raise awareness against victim-blaming in rape cases.

Participants at the Singapore demonstration did not dress provocatively as some activists have in SlutWalks in US and Canadian cities.

Singapore has strict controls on public speech and outdoor demonstrations are rare.
