We have more faith in the rakyat

Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM) Statement - July 22, 2011

Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) is not surprised with court's decision to adjourn the hearing of the habeas corpus applications of six PSM leaders to August 5th. But PSM is rather disappointed that the court did not see the necessity and the importance that the freedom of six people are being deprived every second that they are held in captivity.

The detention of the PSM 6 under Emergency ordinance is malafide, illegal, unlawful and violates fundamental human rights. Today PSM saw that the Government lawyers were not even prepared to hear the case as they did not even bring any documents to court in order to go on with the case. It seems as if they knew that the case will be adjourned.

What is even [more] sickening is that after August 2nd (30 days of detention), the current applications made by the EO6 can be deemed academic since the police can apply another extension of 30 days and this may change the facts of the original application.

Nevertheless, PSM is humbled by the massive public opinion supporting the release of the EO6, the huge support garnered at the court today and at every protest being held, the huge support at the nightly vigils all over the country, the thousands of letters pouring in support and the donations to help us move on. The international community has also expressed its fullest support and solidarity and day by day, the momentum calling for the release keeps growing stronger and louder.

With this kind of support, we believe the people rakyat will be the only legitimate force to liberate our people from the clutches of this corrupt system. When the laws of the land is not fair and allows for detention without trial, when the courts does not have the spine to stand up for justice, when State uses all its apparatus to stay in power....yet we believe ultimately that justice will prevail and liberation will come for the EO 6. We believe that the majority of good people in our country and overseas will see our comrades liberated.

Long Live the People !
