PSM throws support behind Pakatan
The Star - March 4, 2013
PSM will field candidates in the Sungai Siput parliamentary and Jelapang state seats in Perak as well as the Kota Damansara and Semenyih state seats in Selangor.
"We hope Pakatan will not field candidates in these seats. Our candidates will remain supportive of Pakatan.
"We will contest in the four seats, regardless of whether the Opposition decides to field their own candidates there," said party secretary-general S. Arutchelvan, adding that he will be contesting in the Semenyih seat for the second time.
"I believe I have a strong chance since I have been doing grassroots work here for over 20 years," he said during the launch of PSM's manifesto for Semenyih yesterday.
Arutchelvan lost the Semenyih state seat to Barisan Nasional candidate Johan Abdul Aziz in 2008.
PSM also lost Jelapang in a three-cornered fight with DAP and Barisan, while central committee member Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj and nationalchairman Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim won in Sungai Siput and Kota Damansara respectively.
Meanwhile, Arutchelvan outlined three things he would address in his manifesto for Semenyih traffic congestion, pollution, and flash floods.
PSM will be contesting under its own logo in this general election. It had submitted a formal request to join Pakatan Rakyat in September last year.
