The House of Representatives – consistently rated as one of the most corrupt institutions in the country – is stirring up yet another political controversy after lawmakers floated the idea of allowing convicted criminals who have received probationary sentences (terpidana hukuman percobaan) to run in regional elections (Pilkada) arguing that current legislation, which bars convicts from running in elections, abrogates their political rights (hak politik).
