With polls consistently showing less than 10% of Indonesian's still trust the established political parties (parpol), lawmakers are rushing through a regional election law to tighten up requirements for independent candidates after Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama – who with the help of volunteers (relawan) from the Friends of Ahok group was able to register enough voters to stand for reelection – earned their wrath by insisting he would run as an independent in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
